#75 of 365 – “Billie Holiday”

“Billie Holiday”

rain has come crying

in lonely descent

slipping into the music

to sing and lament

a sorrow so deep

in the bone of her voice

it just spills as if spilling

lets grieving rejoice

hear the anguish burn

like heat from her lips

see the need in her eyes,

torment in eclipse

feel truth escape

down knotted ropes of her song

as she invites us in with her

where we’re free to belong
