#116 of 365 – “lantern”

“lantern”

the demons come swooping

to swallow up the light

trying to eat up my prayers

and burn the verses that I write

but I have water for the fires

and for the gods I have food

and a lantern to carry

that helps me to elude

the tormenting darkness

that has muddied up my days

so that the music of the heavens

can lift me out of this malaise

  1. pi314chron says:

    “…and a lantern to carry

    that helps me to elude

    the tormenting darkness…”

These three lines say it all for me. Beautiful expression of hope, faith, and determination, Merle!

(This one verse from the Gospel of John adds another layer of meaning to your three lines above: http://biblehub.com/john/1-5.htm )
