“sleeping on windows”
the road is wet
and we have a ways to go
fighting with weather
and mountains that throw
winding highways through clouds
and through thickets below
where the travelers upon them
are moving too slow
there is music and reading
chatter and news
long quiet stretches
and feet without shoes
there is sleeping on windows
with beautiful views
of the people I love
and the journeys we choose
Awww…hecky-durn! No stanza about dirty rest stops…my favorite! Now that I’ve got that silliness outta the way — I like it! It has a nice self-contained feel to it much as the self-contained warm feeling of traveling with those you love. A+ on this one in my book!

Thanks Big-Daddy! (you’re my haiku-Daddy…just so you know) 😉
I love that the mountains throw winding highways through clouds–what a fab visual!!
Thanks Starralee!! Always feel grateful to see a comment from you!
Well, I don’t know about you–actually, I doubt you have this problem–but I find that my imagery sometimes gets a bit stale, repeated phrases, etc. So when I read you, and a few others (not many), and I see these stand-out images–I get really excited (and envious in a good way). Betty Hayes Albright–don’t know if you’re familiar with her poetry–and I are always saying, “wish I’d thought of that” in each other’s comment boxes! (We’re also friends outside of the blogs.) So your mountain throwing highways is just a pure gem!! 5-Star! Okay, I’m rambling too much….must cook soup.
Mmmmmmmm soup! Yeah…I know what you mean…I seem to be very attached to the word “velvet.” Got a poem named velvet, and have used the word time and again. Anyway, love your rambling. Now…I’ve gotta go…need to catch up on my WordPress reading! Talk with you soon….
Hey, your Mama is way behind in reading your poetry. I started tonight with 198.
This one, 192, just captures your love and expresses that certain tenderness that Mothers feel. Will have more to say on others.
Thanks!!! Glad you’re getting a chance to catch up…means a lot to me!
