#217 of 365 – “soot and shadows”

“soot and shadows”

silence falls like rain’s forgiveness

on a hot and arid night

as worn feelings blow ragged

over a whittled, burned out fight

I have to scour my thoughts

to keep the secrets from building

and scrutinize my habits

to keep the falsehoods from spilling

as I offer up a quiet continuous prayer

to the skies

that the soot and shadows be lifted

before my tiny light dies

Very powerful, Merle! This one, I know at a personal level, but I can’t say more! (Now I have to look up the word “widdled”! That’s a new one for me! Ni, ni!)
