#224 of 365 – “apparitions of abuse”

“apparitions of abuse”

restless truths,

vague memories

buried

behind too much

of the past

like a vapor

barely visible

before

it thins

and disappears,

hiding

in the trees

like leaves

about to die,

and jumping

into the wind

to be carried

off into the

ether

they are nightmares,

dancing

on the rim

of consciousness,

an apparition’s

footprints

on my mind’s

peripheral banks

where to look

sends the present

washing over,

erasing them

like the

tide

I cannot see them

or know them

but only perceive

what is

implied

Very nice, MD. One reading won’t do it…I’ll have to study this one as if there was going to be a quiz on Friday! 🙂 Once again, however, I feel the need to say how very sorry I am that you had to endure such horrors and how proud of you I am that you are overcoming it day by day.

    Warmest Respect Always,

    Ron

Yes, those damn apparitions of abuse–we pretty them up a bit in poetry, but the damage has no elegance whatsoever. I’m glad we can write it here, and read similar stories in others’ poems.
