#344 of 365 – “black dust”

“black dust”

bloodied concrete and broken steel

unexpected goodbyes from a now hallowed field

black dust in the air, grief in our lungs

fear and rage that such evil had come

so many hands reaching in for another

deep-dug loyalty we raced to uncover

we mourn with pride for the souls gone to heaven

who took their last earthly breaths on September 11

Oh yes, well done, Merle. Seems we can’t write the pain out, no matter how many posts we do.
